WebSpellChecker is a web-based application, meaning it runs centrally on a server and users interact with it through web browsers from any computer on the same network.

Before installing WebSpellChecker Server, make sure you have familiarized yourself with:

  1. Software architecture diagram. For details, visit WebSpellChecker Server architecture diagram.
  2. Deployment options. For details, visit WebSpellChecker Server deployment options.
  3. System requirements
    1. Hardware requirements. Refer to WebSpellChecker Server hardware requirements or WebSpellChecker Server v5.7.0+ hardware requirements pages accordingly that describe optimal requirements for HDD, RAM, CPU and supported cloud computing providers.
    2. Software requirements. Refer to WebSpellChecker Server system requirements page which lists the additional required server and client software like operating systems, web or Java application servers, web browsers.

Despite the fact that the server version of the WebSpellChecker package is designed to ensure data security and privacy by processing data in a controlled environment (e.g. behind firewall), the Internet connection is required during initial setup. These cases are:

  • Download the installation package from files.webspellchecker.com (AWS S3, USA).
  • Download the additional component(s), language model(s), which are required for the AI-based proofreader engine work. The pretrained language models for English (GB) and German (GB) are heavy. Thus, they are excluded from the installation package and have to be downloaded during the installation. These files are located on files.webspellchecker.com (AWS S3, USA). There is an option to skip downloading these files during the installation and do it manually later. For more details, visit How to download and enable AI-based engine manually.
  • Activate a license. The license activation is mandatory for proper work of the application. During the license activation process, the application server will attempt to connect to the external entry point (https://webspellchecker.com/api/licensing/v1/process-license, AWS EC2 + RDS, USA) to validate and confirm the license.
